AREVA Inc. said this week that the company signed approximately $300 million in uranium-enrichment contracts with four U.S. utilities in 2015.

“These contracts are recognition of AREVA’s expertise in providing enrichment services and demonstrate the company’s commitment to ensuring security of supply for its customers,” Olivier Wantz, senior executive vice president for Mining and Front End Business Groups, said.

The company said the U.S. houses the largest fleet of nuclear power plants globally. Approximately 67 percent of the country’s low-carbon electricity is generated through nuclear reactors.

AREVA said its strategy in this area involves securing long-term agreements with large international client. Agreements with the U.S. allow the company to foster positive relations with U.S. nuclear companies and utilities.

The company is active in many areas of the nuclear industry globally, specializing in the development and manufacture of fuels, assemblies and nuclear-reactor components alongside services in site management and decommissioning.
