Over the course of 2015, AREVA NP facilitated 43 planned outages at U.S. nuclear facilities, conducting repairs, fuel replacement and reactor maintenance, the company said late last week.
The company said approximately 3,200 workers associated with AREVA were able to complete approximately 1.6 million working hours without reporting any injuries that resulted in lost time. The company said nuclear generation makes up approximately 63 percent of low-carbon or carbon-free electricity in the U.S.
“Our successful outage work over the last year is an important requirement for our customers to continue operating their nuclear energy facilities safely while ensuring operational excellence,” George Beam, senior vice president of Installed Base Services at AREVA, said. “Through innovative solutions and advanced technologies, our skilled teams met the unique needs of each facility while maintaining the highest standards in outage execution.”
Along with completing repairs and other maintenance tasks while loading and unloading fuel from reactors, AREVA’s outage-service teams also carried out inspections at these nuclear plants.
The company said in an informational graphic that it carried out 17 rebuilds of motors and transported over 7,700 fuel-assembly bundles.
AREVA specializes in several areas of the nuclear power industry on an international scale.
