AREVA Inc. recently awarded its annual Engineer of the Year Awards, honoring employees in each of its American business groups and divisions as part of the company’s National Engineers Week celebrations.

“At AREVA, the pride and passion of our people drive everything that we do, and I’m proud to work with some of the most talented professionals in the industry,”

AREVA  President and CEO Gary Mignogna said. “Our employees sustain and advance nuclear energy in our work to support existing and next-generation reactors, and to develop the future workforce.”

The Engineer of the Year awards begin with peer nominations and progress to an evaluation conducted by business group management and an independent internal committee. The evaluators look at nominees’ contributions throughout the year and their actions in areas like safety, quality, performance, delivery, innovation and community involvement.

This year’s overall AREVA Engineer of the Year is Michael Salisbury, who works in the company’s Fuel Business Unit. Areva’s managers and internal committee chose Salisbury for his work at the company’s Richland, Washington, Modular Extraction Recovery Facility, where he redefined the facility’s missions to recovering uranium from incinerator ash.
