AREVA finishes initial tests for TerraPower

AREVA, Inc., wrapped up fuel fabrication and testing services for sustainable nuclear energy technology company TerraPower, AREVA said Monday.

AREVA conducted the testing services at its facility in Richland, Washington, where it experiments with and manufactures nuclear fuel for more than 30 reactors.

TerraPower is developing a 600 megawatt electrical nuclear reactor prototype. TerraPower, known for leading the way in next generation safe and affordable clean technology, was founded in 2006 by a group of investors that includes Bill Gates. 

“Thanks to AREVA’s comprehensive offer and proven expertise, TerraPower selected our company for this important step in the advancement of their prototype reactor,” Senior Vice President of AREVA’s fuel business unit for the U.S. region Ron Land said. 

AREVA is a multinational nuclear power company that offers a wide scope of testing services for successful nuclear licensing and validation. The company also is the leading contributor of innovative nuclear fuel design.

AREVA’s nearly 5,000 U.S. and Canadian employees provide North America with a significant amount of energy with less carbon dioxide output.

Following the signing of the implementation agreement for the $300 million Independent Power Project in January 2020, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy in Saudi Arabia, ACWA Power today executed the official agreements for the 240 MW wind power project that will be located in the Absheron and Khizi regions.
