AREVA announced on Wednesday that they have been awarded a cleanup contract with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).

Under this five-year contract, the company will take part in the decontaminating of the commission’s Atelier de DĂ©contamination, d’Expertise et de Conditionnement (ADEC) facility, located in Saclay in the Ile-de-France region.

“With this contract, AREVA secures its activity in Ile-de-France for several years and strengthens the historical relationship the group has with the [commission] in decontamination and dismantling field,” AREVA Dismantling and Services Business Director Alain Vandercruyssen said. “Thanks to the wide-ranging and complementary expertise of our five divisions, we were able to put together a customized offer for the CEA, meeting their requirements in terms of project management, servicing of the installations and radiological qualification.”

The ADEC facility served as a decontamination, packaging and appraisal facility for the commission, and it was in service between 1962 and 2011. The company’s dismantling and services division will be taking on cleaning and decontamination efforts in a 2,250 square meter area and eliminating stored radioactive waste at the facility.

AREVA states that it is capable of managing multiple levels of radioactive waste. The company specializes in various areas related to the nuclear energy industry.
