NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION: NRC Seeks Public Comments on Retrospective Review of Administrative Regulations

Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued the following announcement on May 3.

The NRC is soliciting public comments on its strategy for identifying administrative regulations that are outdated or duplicative and can be eliminated without an adverse effect on the agency mission.

The NRC anticipates this effort will improve how applicants and licensees submit information, keep records and report to the agency.

The comment period, as outlined in the Federal Register notice published today, will run until July 2. Comments received after this date will be considered if deemed practical to do so.

The goal of the retrospective review is to enhance the management and administration of regulatory activities, and to ensure the agency’s regulations remain current and effective.

The review is intended to identify regulatory changes that are administrative in nature and which will make information submittal, record keeping and reporting processes more efficient for the agency, applicants and licensees.

This effort is limited to identifying outdated or duplicative, non-substantive administrative regulations. Comments can be submitted through the federal Rulemaking website by searching for Docket ID NRC-2017-0214.

Comments can also be emailed to Rulemaking.Comments@nrc.gov or faxed to 301-415-1101. More instructions related to submitting comments and contacts for further information are outlined in the Federal Register notice.

The NRC will conduct two public meetings to discuss the review process and recommendations. A notice of the location, time, and agenda also will be posted in the Federal Register and on the NRC’s website at least 10 calendar days before the meetings.
