Cain named senior inspector at BWXT nuclear-fuel facility in Virginia

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said this week that it has named Mike Cain the new senior resident inspector at the BWX Technologies (BWXT) nuclear fuel facility in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Prior to this appointment, Cain served as senior resident inspector at Plant Vogtle near Waynesboro, Georgia, and had worked there since 2009.

“Mike Cain has the experience and commitment to safety to carry out the NRC mission of protecting people and the environment by helping to ensure the safety of the BWXT facility,” NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney said.

Cain initially joined the NRC in 2004 as a resident inspector for the V.C. Summer nuclear plant near Jenkinsville, South Carolina. Prior to this, Cain served with the U.S. Navy’s nuclear submarine and surface fleets. Cain also worked in management and other supervisory roles in  plant operations at the Robinson nuclear plant in Hartsville, S.C.

NRC resident inspectors act as liaisons between the facility and the regulatory body, this position is also tasked with monitoring plant activity and carrying out evaluations and investigations.
