Exelon names new site VPs at two Illinois nuclear plants

Exelon Corp. said recently that it has appointed Bill Trafton and Peter Karaba to serve as site vice presidents for the LaSalle and Dresden County stations, respectively.

Exelon said they have nearly 50 years of nuclear-industry experience between them. Trafton previously served as plant manager for Nine Mile Point Station, near Oswego, New York,  also owned by Exelon. Trafton actually began his industry career  as an equipment attendant for LaSalle in 1983. Trafton also served as operations director at Nine Mile Point before becoming plant manager.

Karaba previously served as plant manager at LaSalle, near Seneca, Illinois, and in multiple positions at Dresden, near Morris, Illinois, ranging from engineering, operations and maintenance roles. Karaba actually began his industry career at Dresden  in 1990 as an engineer.

Karaba holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and also earned a senior reactor operator license.

Combined, these power stations are capable of generating approximately 4,000 megawatts of electricity. Exelon said this is enough to support electricity needs for approximately 4 million typical households.
