AREVA to teach mechanical-engineering group's standards

AREVA Inc. said recently that it has signed a deal with the  American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to provide training regarding the society’s standards and how they apply to the nuclear industry.

The training sessions will occur over a three-day period that can be held at any AREVA location or at a client's chosen site. The training curriculum joins other modules that are available to the U.S. nuclear industry, including information on nuclear reactor theory, environmental qualifications and other topics. The course, “Overview of Codes and Standards for Nuclear Power Plants,” consists of presentations of ASME codes and associated exercises.

“Our industry is going through a time of transition, with a generation of plant personnel retiring and new professionals entering the workforce,” Lee Williams, senior vice president of Installed Base Projects at AREVA Inc., said. “With this training, we are working to foster operational excellence, to facilitate knowledge transfer, and to provide utility employees with the information and skills they need to continue operating plants safely and in compliance with the ASME code.”

ASME develops codes and standards to facilitate the development of technology and associated knowledge in relation to many industries, including the nuclear industry.
