NRC taps veteran inspector for Arkansas Nuclear One plant

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)  said Wednesday that Andy Barrett has been selected to serve as a resident inspector at the Arkansas Nuclear One facility in in Russellville. 

Prior to his NRC appointment, Barrett served as a resident inspector for the Grand Gulf and River Bend in Nuclear Power plants in Port Gibson, Mississippi. and St. Francisville, Louisana, respectively. He has worked within the NRC since 2003.

"Andy Barrett’s technical experience and regulatory perspective will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission to protect people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of Arkansas Nuclear One,” NRC Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas said.

Every nuclear power plant operating in the U.S. has a minimum of two resident inspectors that serve as the NRC representatives to the site, The inspectors conduct all inspection and monitoring work associated with the plant and serve as liaisons to plant staff, management and members of the surrounding community.
   
Barrett will be joining fellow Resident Inspector Margaret Tobin and Senior Resident Inspector Brian Tindell at the Arkansas Nuclear One plant.

Barrett holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from Texas A&M University.
  
The Arkansas Nuclear One plant is owned by Entergy Ark. Inc. and operates two nuclear reactors with a capacity of 1,823 megawatts of electricity.
