Shortly after the founding of POWER Engineers Inc. in 1976, the company’s Pocatello, Idaho, office burned to the ground, an event POWER Engineers staff have memorialized in the form of an annual January party called The Burnout.
Since starting over in a small town south of the Sun Valley ski area, POWER Engineers' subsequent offices haven’t been the result of a disaster; rather, the additional sites and larger spaces are due to its continued growth.
Specifically, POWER Engineers “has continued to see growth in its energy business, both in power delivery and generation,” Randy Grass, manager of the company’s Power Delivery Division, told Power News Wire. The firm “has one of the largest dedicated power delivery design staffs of any consultant in the United States.”
In addition to Idaho, POWER Engineers has offices in 14 states and in international locations including Canada, Finland, South Africa and Thailand. Specializing in integrated engineering solutions tailored to the food and beverage, communication, environmental and energy markets, the company employs roughly 2,300 employees.
Most recently, the global consulting services and engineering firm in July relocated 30 employees working in the Kansas City metropolitan area to a bigger office in Lenexa, Kansas. The larger space will accommodate offices and operations in design, project management, construction management, program services, environmental compliance and permitting, and other engineering consulting services, Grass said.
“The new location will allow us the space to more than double our existing staff in the future,” he said.
In fact, POWER Engineers Project Manager Eric Schultz said the new building also allows for better recruiting opportunities as the company continues to grow. Additionally, Grass said that the Kansas location makes POWER Engineers better positioned “very close to many of our Midwestern clients,” while also allowing “us to draw on the wealth of experienced talent and engineering graduates in this region,” he said, referring to the 42 colleges located within 50 miles of Lenexa.
Grass said POWER Engineers continues to expand its services with clients across the U.S., particularly in “one of our largest areas of growth … the energy sector, including electricity and gas.” POWER is positioned to help its clients thrive in the rapidly changing electric utility industry, he said.
“Many of those changes are driven by the increase in renewable energy, increase in distributed generation, the need for a more intelligent grid and the development of micro-grids to further improve the customer demand for reliable and cost-effective energy,” he told Power News Wire.
