NRC to hold public meeting on Louisiana's Waterford 3 plant

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said it will host a public meeting July 7 with Entergy Nuclear officials regarding the operation of the company's Waterford 3 nuclear power plant in Killona, Louisiana.

Over the course of 2014, the plant was considered to have operated in a safe manner, but the NRC did issue a white finding in relation to a emergency generator fan failure. This has since been lifted. The NRC issues color findings on safety and operations. A white level indicates low to moderate concern. Yellow and red finding markers indicate more serious violations and green indicates very little or no violations.

The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. in the Saint Charles Parish Emergency Operations Center at 15026 River Rd. in Hahnville, Louisiana. NRC staff will be available to answer questions and concerns following the informational portion of the meeting.

“The NRC continually reviews the performance of Waterford 3 and each of the nation’s commercial nuclear power plants,” NRC Region IV Administrator Marc Dapas said. “This meeting will provide an opportunity for a discussion of our assessment of safety performance with the company and with local officials and residents who live near the plant."
