The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will have an open house on April 29 to discuss its safety and operations assessment of the North Anna nuclear plant in Virginia.

Operated by Dominion, the North Anna nuclear plant is 40 miles northwest of Richmond, near Mineral.

Staff from the NRC will answer any questions the general public may have about the agency's inspection, oversight and assessment of the plant’s performance in 2014.

The NRC inspectors determined that Units 1 and 2 at the plant operated safely and efficiently throughout the year. In the future, the plant will receive the normal baseline or routine inspections that the NRC conducts at all nuclear power plants in the U.S.

“NRC inspectors continually evaluate each nuclear plant’s safety, and each year we take a detailed look at that information to identify any trends and help plan future inspections,” Victor McCree, NRC Region II administrator, said. “Inspection results are available throughout the year, but these annual meetings allow us to talk to local residents and answer any questions they may have.”

The open house will 5 to 6 p.m. at the Town of Mineral Municipal Building, 312 Mineral Ave.
