AREVA Inc. said recently that the company donated $5,000 to Charlotte Engineering Early College (CEEC) in Charlotte, North Carolina, to support the college's 2016 Nuclear and Renewable Energy Expo, set for Friday, April 29.

“At AREVA, we are committed to sustaining and advancing nuclear energy and are proud to partner with CEEC to support educational programs for the advancement of science, technology, engineering and math,” Fariba Gartland, AREVA's vice president of plant engineering, said. “Preparing our students for careers in engineering, including the nuclear energy sector, is a critical step in building the workforce of our future clean-energy economy.”

AREVA is serving as a "platinum" sponsor of the expo, which will spotlight students’ engineering projects, giving them exposure in the engineering community.

“It is important to garner the support of local engineering firms in order to enrich the learning experience at CEEC,” Sharrell Howard, academic facilitator/academy director at CEEC, said. “We believe it is vital to a student’s academic progression to see industry in action by having industry professionals speak at the school, assist students with projects and mentor students.”
