Sasha Davies has been named head of strategic development for the Wylfa Newydd nuclear-plant project in Wales, Horizon Nuclear Power said late last week.

Davies’ position will consist of development activity relating to local supply chains, jobs and skills planning, developing the plant’s footprint in the area and working with stakeholders throughout Wales. Davies is fluent in Welsh and will be managing Welsh-language planning associated with the plant.

"I’ve been a longstanding believer in the power of major energy projects to transform the local and regional economy and support communities,” Davies said. “Wylfa Newydd presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m delighted to be part of the team working to deliver the project.”

Prior to this, Davies served on the Conwy County Borough Council as strategic director of economy and place. Davies also has been involved in facilitating energy research with the Anglesey Energy Island Program as its director.

“Sasha brings with her a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the local and regional economy and culture,” Horizon Nuclear Power Operations Director Greg Evans said. “Her experience and drive will help us ensure Wylfa Newydd is not just a world-class power station, but also a source of opportunity for future generations.”
