Curtiss-Wright ships first half of reactor-coolant-pump order to Chinese plant

Curtiss-Wright Corp. said on Thursday that it has shipped the first two AP1000 reactor-coolant pumps (RCP) to the Sanmen Unit 1 nuclear plant in China.

Earlier in October, the company said the pumps had successfully completed the regulatory process in China, and it was determined that the RCPs performed to design specifications and met Chinese regulatory standards.

"The successful shipment of our first-of-a-kind RCPs represents another major milestone achievement for Curtiss-Wright," David Adams, chairman and CEO of Curtiss-Wright Corp., said. "Having recently completed the full testing and qualification processes for our RCPs, these actions reflect our ongoing commitment to safe and reliable AP1000 plant operation. Furthermore, we look forward to continuing our support of China's nuclear power program."

Two additional RCPs are expected to be completed and shipped to the reactor by the end of the year. The company is on track to produce 32 RCP units under contracts for U.S.- and Chinese-based nuclear plant-construction projects, including the Vogtle plant in Georgia, the Virgil C. Summer plant in South Carolina, the Haiyang site in the Shandong Province of China and the Sanmnen plant in the Zhejiang Province.

All RCPs are manufactured at Curtiss-Wright's electro-mechanical facility in Cheswick, Pennsylvania.
