AREVA announced the launch of a new testing system at their Creusot, France site on Thursday.
According to the announcement, the system is able to reproduce components of a reactor coolant system of European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) types. The system -- BEATRIC -- is able to re-create conditions of a nuclear reactor and its effects on the main components including steam generators, fuel and piping. The system was developed as a part of the company's safety alliance program.
“This success illustrates AREVA’s capacity for innovation," AREVA's Senior Executive Vice President of Reactors and Services Business Group Philippe Samama said. "The BEATRICE system is unique in the world and required more than five years of work, drawing on the whole range of skills available within AREVA’s Technical Center.”
The company says utilities will be able to use this testing system to determine reactor control optimization. The test is specifically designed to determine how many corrosive products are expelled into water within the coolant system of a reactor.
AREVA is focused on multiple areas of the nuclear generation industry and offers products and services that support the mining of uranium, fuel cycling, reactor design and manufacture, and the safe disposal and transport of spent nuclear fuel.
