GE Hitachi (GEH)
on Wednesday provided its first delivery to Japan of Turbine Water Lubricated (TWL) pumps used in cooling activity in a nuclear reactor.
“We’re pleased to support the specific needs of our customers in Japan with this reliable safety enhancement,” GEH Senior Vice President Lance Hall said.
The company has shipped pumps to TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, and two additional units are to be delivered by year's end.
The pumps are manufactured by ClydeUnion Pumps, under SPX Corp. In addition to the pumps themselves, GEH offers project management services, specifications for design, materials and fabrication.
Features offered by the pumps include simplified controls and a compact design. They are manufactured in a way that reduces maintenance requirements and require no additional source of electricity to operate.
GEH offers nuclear services around the globe. It was established with a merger between GE and Hitachi in 2007.
