BWXT Canada awarded Chinese design, manufacturing contracts

BWXT Canada, Ltd. has been awarded design and component manufacturing contracts for a steam generator to be utilized at the HPR1000 nuclear power plant in Guangxi, China; BWXT Canada's parent company, BWX Technologies (BWXT), announced Monday.

The manufacturing contracts were awarded by Dongfang Electric Corp., Ltd and Dongfang Heavy Machinery Corp., Ltd.

The design contracts were awarded by China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. and China Nuclear Power Design Co., Ltd.

BWXT will be tasked with designing two steam generators and the manufacture of certain components for both reactors that will become the third and fourth units at the power plant that is owned by Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

“We look forward to supplying high-quality designed and manufactured components to support the long-term operation of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant,” BWXT Canada President John MacQuarrie said. “We are proud to have been selected for these steam generator design and manufacturing contracts and look forward to further expanding our international presence.”

BWXT is based in Lynchburg, Virginia, and specializes in supplying and manufacturing nuclear components for reactors and fuel rods. The company is one of the leading suppliers to the U.S. government. They also offer technical, managerial and site services.

The steam generator components are expected to be completed and delivered in 2018.
