Britt hired as Southern Co.'s Energy Innovation Center vice president

Southern Co. has named Michael Britt vice president of the company's new Energy Innovation Center (EIC), the company announced Tuesday.

The center's focus will be on the development of products and services that allows better service to the company's client base. The EIC is the latest division of the company and is part of an enterprise-wide push for innovation in clean and reliable energy.

Britt has approximately 30 years of working experience with marketing, utility strategy and operational improvement. Prior to this appointment, he was a partner of Oliver Wyman, a management consulting firm, and his focus was on the market growth and strategy development for numerous utilities based in the U.S. Britt has worked several positions within Southern Co. in the 1990s.

"The Energy Innovation Center will be an incubator of products and services that will continue to position Southern Co. as an industry leader," Thomas Fanning, chairman, president and CEO of the company, said. "Having followed the growth of Michael Britt's career, I am confident he represents the combination of product development experience, industry knowledge and understanding of Southern Co. that is essential to meet the rapidly changing needs of the customers we're privileged to serve."
