The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said on Tuesday that it has named Matthew Fannon as the new resident inspector for the nuclear power plant in Limerick, Pennsylvania.

Fannon holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering from the University of Tennessee. Prior to being selected as a resident inspector, Fannon served as a reactor engineer in the Region I Division of Reactor Projects and previously served in the U.S. Navy's nuclear propulsion program.

Fannon will be partnered with Senior Resident Inspector Scott Rutenkroger. The NRC has a minimum of two resident inspectors for all commercially operated nuclear power plants nationwide. Resident inspectors are expected to act as the primary representatives of the NRC at the facility and monitor work projects, perform regular inspections, and interact with facility staff and the public, especially the community surrounding the plant. Fannon also has completed required inspection and nuclear safety professional programs.

"Matt Fannon’s training and technical expertise will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission to protect people and the environment by ensuring the safe operation of Limerick,” NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman said.

The plant is a two-reactor facility that is owned and operated by Exelon Corp.
