Georgia Power receives generator from South Korea

The Unit 3 Steam Generator A for Georgia Power's Vogtle expansion site near Waynesboro, Georgia recently arrived from South Korea. 

The new generator was assembled in South Korea before being shipped to the Port of Savannah. It was transported to the Vogtle site via train.

The massive generator weighs 650 tons (1.3 million pounds) and measures 82 feet long. It will exchange heat produced in a nuclear reactor core and convert water into steam.

The plant also recently received the pressurizer for Unit 4. It was constructed in Italy and weighs 225,000 pounds. It will be used in the  reactor coolant system to maintain and balance liquid and vapor to create pressure control.

Plant Vogtle's expansion is part of Georgia Power's plan for long-term provision of clean, reliable and affordable energy for its customers. At the culmination of the expansion, is is predicted that Plant Vogtle will produce more electricity than any other nuclear facility in the United States - enough to power more than 1 million homes and businesses.
