NRC holding public meetings to discuss Wis. radioisotope facility

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will hold two meetings on June 10 to obtain public comments on a draft study detailing environmental impacts for a proposed medical radioisotope facility in Janesville, Wisconsin, operated by SHINE Medical Technologies, Inc.

The meetings will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rotary Botanical Gardens, 1455 Palmer Drive. They will be transcribed.

One hour before the start of each session, NRC staff will host informal, non-transcribed discussions with the public at the same location. For comments to be considered, they must be provided during the transcribed public meeting or submitted in writing by July 6.

The NRC preliminary environmental recommendation concludes that the construction permit could be issued because of several factors, including its independent environmental review; consultation with federal, state and local agencies; consideration of public comments received at the public scoping meetings; and information in the SHINE application.

The Draft Environmental Impact Statement is on the NRC website, www.nrc.gov, and will be available on the federal rulemaking website, Regulations.gov, under Docket ID NRC-2013-0053.

Comments can be submitted, using Docket ID NRC-2013- 0053, through Regulations.gov or by mailing them to Cindy Bladey, Office of Administration, Mail Stop: OWFN 12 H08, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C. 20555-0001.
