Amec Foster Wheeler recently announced that it has been awarded a four-year Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) contract that will expand the variety of services it currently offers.

Under the contract, Amec Foster Wheeler will be able to offer waste management, decommissioning and site characterization services throughout the company’s nuclear sites in the United Kingdom (U.K.). The company will use its expertise gained from environmental and clean energy projects to work on improving all seven technical sectors included in the contract.

These improvements will include research reactor sites at Winfrith and Harwell; low-level waste repositories based in Dounreay, Scotland, and West Cumbria, England; site characterization to engineer the design and deliver of a geological disposal facility; technical support for the NDA decommissioning program; waste management services for decommissioned and radioactive waste; safety case management; environmental assessments; and both experimental and laboratory research.

“By combining our clean energy and environmental skills we are able to provide a world-class service to the NDA in their drive to manage the U.K.’s nuclear clean-up program,” Amec Foster Wheeler’s Nuclear Services business Vice President Andy White said. “The award also further reinforces our position as one of the world’s leading nuclear services companies.”
