The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Tuesday it will discuss the NRC’s assessment of the safety and operations at the Robinson nuclear plant for the year 2014 at an open house on April 29.

The Robinson nuclear plant, located near Hartsville, South Carolina, is operated by  Duke Energy.

Staff from the NRC will be present at the meeting to answer any questions concerning the safety performance and assessment of the Robinson nuclear plant. They will also discuss the inspection and oversight by NRC.

NRC staff have said the single nuclear unit that operates at the Robinson plant has operated safely for 2014. The plant will be granted the same baseline or routine inspections that all nuclear power plants receive from the NRC.

“NRC inspectors continually evaluate each nuclear plant’s safety, and each year we take a detailed look at that information to identify any trends and help plan future inspections,” NRC Region II Administrator  Victor McCree said. “Inspection results are available throughout the year, but these annual meetings allow us to talk to local residents and answer any questions they may have.”

The open house will be held from 5-6 p.m. April 29 at the Hartsville Public Library, 147 W. College Ave. in Hartsville.
