NRC to discuss Palisades nuclear plant performance

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is holding an open house and public meeting Thursday discuss the annual safety performance of the Palisades Nuclear Power Station in Michigan.

The open house will begin at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a public meeting at 6 p.m. at the Beach Haven Event Center, 10420 M-140, in South Haven, Michigan,

NRC staff members will be available to answer questions regarding the plant’s 2014 performance, NRC inspection activities and past and current concerns. NRC inspectors also will discuss the regulation of radioactive material at facilities such as local hospitals, engineering firms and other industrial facilities.

“In addition to our discussion on plant performance and the NRC’s actions to ensure safety, we have invited NRC experts in specific areas of concern to the Palisades community to be available to talk to people one-on-one during the open house.” NRC Region III Administrator Cynthia Pederson said. “We are also excited to have our inspectors specializing in nuclear safety at hospitals, clinics, engineering firms and industrial plants on hand to talk about the important work they do.”
