Ex-senator briefs Ohio lawmakers on nuclear industry's impact

Nuclear Matters participated in a recent Consumer Energy Alliance (CEA) Energy 101 briefing in Columbus, Ohio, led by a former U.S. senator from Arkansas, Blanche Lincoln.

The event highlighted the benefits of nuclear power to an audience containing approximately 40 Ohio legislators.

In her speech, Lincoln said the nuclear industry is a driving influence within the state’s energy sector, powering 2 million homes and businesses, and employing more than 1,400 highly skilled workers in Ohio alone.

“Existing nuclear plants are drivers of economic growth. It’s one of the most reliable sources of energy, available 24-seven and in all weather conditions,” Lincoln said. “There’s a large group of us who understand the importance of nuclear, that it really does matter. As policymakers, I implore you to join us and recognize the monumental difference that nuclear makes for our country.”

Nuclear Matters also took part in a CEA Energy 101 briefing in Atlanta last month. The CEA provides energy consumers and legislators with information on U.S. and global energy issues. The CEA has regional chapters in Alaska, Florida, Texas, and in Midwest and Mid Atlantic states, while also operating grassroots chapters in 20 states.
