NRC seeks LaSalle Station renewal

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) recently announced the per-request application renewal of the operating licenses of the LaSalle County Station nuclear power plant in Marseilles, IL.
Body
The LaSalle Station has two Exelon Generation Co. operated unit boiling-water reactors and is one of six nuclear power plants in Illinois that provides half the state with reliable energy. As it stands now, these two reactors are licensed to operate through April of 2022, for Unit 1, and until December of 2023, for Unit 2.

On December 9th, Exelon Co. filed an application seeking to renew LaSalle’s operation licenses for an extended 20 years.

The NRC staff, who determined the application to be satisfactory for technical review, has launched an environmental impact renewal initiative and will conduct two public meetings on March 10th.

The meetings will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the LaSalle County Emergency Operations Center, 711 East Etna Road, in Ottawa, IL.

Please visit the NRC website to view the LaSalle for more information regarding the license renewal process.
