NRC slates open house on Newport, Michigan, power plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Tuesday it will conduct a open house June 18 on the 2014 performance of the Fermi Nuclear Power Plant in Newport, Michigan, operated by DTE Electronic Co.  The open house is slated to run from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Monroe County Courthouse Board of Commissioners’ Chambers in Monroe, Michigan. TVA: Watts Bar Unit 2 may be operational by year's end

The Tennessee Valley Authority’s Watts Bar Unit 2 plant is in the final phases of construction, and a TVA official recently said it is on track to be the first new nuclear plant of the 21st century. The TVA said the facility, upon completion, will generate approximately 1,150 megawatts of safe, carbon-free power. 4 major utilities interested in Lightbridge’s metallic fuel design seek NRC review

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) said Monday that four electric utility companies have asked the NRC to review Lightbridge Corp.’s patented metallic fuel design because of its safety and efficiency potential.
